Security and Privacy of MMEx Messages
All interactions with MMEx are carried out over encrypted connections. Once received on the server, the message and attachments are encrypted. Message text and attachments are never stored in clear text. The process of encryption actually takes place on a separate server that is not visible to the outside world. This protects the private keys that are used in the encryption process.

Access to a person’s messages is via a username and password. Records are kept of logons to the system that includes time and location. High levels of failed logon attempts are also recorded.

Although not a requirement, MMEx will deliver messages that are digitally signed or encrypted using public key encryption certificates (like the HeSA/Medicare keys for example). Digital signatures are required in some instances by Medicare for referrals and so this can be done and the message sent via MMEx.

Deletion of messages is controlled by the sender and recipients. No restriction has been placed on the length of time messages may remain on MMex servers, however policy may be set to delete the messages automatically after a set time after the message being read or downloaded.
